Today I went through all of my Facebook friends and deleted a bunch.
I’m one of those people who contemplates deleting their Facebook
account, but not because I am too hipster for Facebook—simply because it
is a large part of my life and I don’t want it to be. I don’t have
very good social media self control.
Then I thought,What if I removed everyone from my Facebook except for like, 10 people? The people I care most about.
Well, as everyone knows, Facebook isn’t that easy, just like
real-life relationships aren’t that easy. There are your close friends,
your family, your extended family, your friends you hang out with at
parties, your English Major friends, your church friends who would cry
if you defriended them, etc etc.
So then I decided to get rid of everyone who I stalked. Everyone
who, I would never have anything to say to irl; the people I compare my
life to; the people who aren’t good for my mind. Half the time it isn’t
their fault—it’s my judgmental, stupid conscience. I’d like to think
that I’m not the only person who does this, though. Who keeps people
hanging around just to compare yourself to them.
I removed the stalkies, the stalkers, the people who I didn’t know or
had forgotten, the people who I was only friends with for stupid
reasons.
My friend count went from 290 to 175 very easily.
And it is refreshing!
I probably will not ever delete my Facebook account. I like the
pictures too much. I like banters with Carrie too much. I like being
invited to events.
But I need to start constructing a Facebook for myself that surrounds me with positivity. Do you?
